Clash Verge and a VLESS key: a profile that works

Clash Verge wants a YAML profile, and the bot hands out a vless:// line. Here is how to bridge the two without guessing.

01

Quick answers

  • Clash Verge is a desktop client for Windows, macOS and Linux. The maintained fork is called Clash Verge Rev and is built with Tauri.
  • It bundles the Mihomo core, which supports VLESS with Reality, the transport our servers use.
  • It reads profiles written in YAML or fetched from a subscription link. A bare vless:// line is not a profile.
  • If you only want to paste the link and go, Hiddify or v2rayN take it directly and need no conversion.
02

What the client really is

The name causes confusion because several projects share it. The page to download from is the clash-verge-rev repository on GitHub, and its README describes the app as a graphical front end with the Clash.Meta (Mihomo) core inside. It is not a service, it has no servers, and it does not give you a key. It only holds one. Because it is open source, copies on random download sites are a risk: take the release from the project page, and check that the file name matches what is listed there.

03

Why the link needs converting

Clash profiles describe proxies in a fixed layout, and the Mihomo documentation shows the fields a VLESS entry needs: the server and port, the user ID, a flow value, TLS switched on, a server name, a client fingerprint, and a reality block with a public key and a short ID. A vless:// link carries the same facts packed into one line. So the job is moving each value from the link to its field. Nothing is invented on the way; if a value is missing from your link, ask in the bot rather than guess.

04

Building the profile

1

Go to the Telegram bot, activate the trial, and take the vless:// link it gives you.

2

In Clash Verge, create a new local profile and open it for editing.

3

Add one entry under proxies with type vless, then copy the server, port and user ID from the link into server, port and uuid.

4

Set tls to true, network to tcp, and copy flow, the server name (sni) and the Reality public key and short ID from the link into flow, servername and reality-opts.

5

Set client-fingerprint to Chrome unless the link says otherwise, save, and select the profile.

6

Turn the proxy on and pick it in the Proxies tab.

05

System proxy or TUN

In system proxy mode, only browsers and programs that honour the Windows or macOS proxy setting are routed. TUN mode adds a virtual network card that catches all traffic on the machine, games and desktop apps included, but it needs elevated rights and often a helper service installed once. On a work laptop that policy may block it. If the status says connected and a page still shows your home address, you are in system proxy mode with an app that ignores it.

06

When it starts and nothing happens

  • The profile saved but is not selected, so the core runs with the default empty one.
  • A value was copied with a stray space or a missing character, especially the public key.
  • The core was blocked or quarantined by security software, which shows up in the app log.
  • Another proxy tool already holds the local port.
  • The client is an old build that predates current Reality handling, so update it first.
07

Where this fits and where it does not

We do not ship Clash Verge and we do not support its settings screens; problems with the key belong in the bot, problems with the program belong with the project. For a first setup on Windows, v2rayN is shorter. For iPhone, Streisand or V2Box are the clients that read a key. Clash Verge is for people who already live in Clash profiles and want the key to sit beside their rules.

Questions

01Is Clash Verge safe to download?

The project is open source, and the safest route is its own GitHub releases page. Avoid mirrors and repackaged installers.

02Can Verge handle VLESS with Reality?

Yes, through its bundled Mihomo core, according to the Mihomo documentation. Update the client so the core stays current.

03Can I paste the vless link straight in?

Not as a profile. Convert it into a proxy entry as above, or use a client that imports the link itself.

04Is TUN mode necessary here?

Only when you want the whole machine on the connection. Browsing alone works fine with system proxy.

05Is the original Clash Verge still the one to use?

The maintained line is Clash Verge Rev. Use that repository and ignore forks without releases.

06Can I run the same key here and on my phone?

Yes. A single key can run on five devices simultaneously, and the clients on them can differ.
