What to do first
VPNs for Windows come in two shapes: the built-in VPN page in Settings, and a client you install. The built-in page expects connection types a VLESS key is not, so it will not take our link. The working route is a client: v2rayN, NekoRay or Hiddify Desktop. Install one, paste the link from the bot and choose how much of the machine it should carry.
Setup in five steps
Take the free trial in @vpnlab_bot and copy the vless:// link.
Install v2rayN, NekoRay or Hiddify Desktop from the project's official page.
Add the link as a profile, from the clipboard or by scanning.
Turn on tunnel mode (TUN). It usually needs the client run as administrator.
Connect, then open an IP page to confirm the address changed.
Proxy mode versus TUN
Set to proxy mode, the client only points Windows web traffic at itself. Browsers follow; a game launcher or a desktop app often does not. TUN mode creates a virtual network adapter and puts the whole machine behind the tunnel. That is the mode people mean when they say VPN, and it is why a launch with administrator rights matters.
If a Windows prompt appears about allowing the client through the firewall, choose the private network option you trust, not all.
When free VPNs for Windows go wrong
- Pages changed but an app did not: you are in proxy mode, so switch to TUN.
- The client connects and nothing loads: remove old profiles and use a fresh link.
- The clock is off by minutes: fix the time, because the handshake needs it.
- It worked yesterday: the client may have updated; reopen it as administrator.
- Another VPN adapter is active and conflicts. Disable the unused one in network settings.
- The machine woke from sleep and the client did not reconnect. Press connect again.
How to choose among free clients

A client is worth keeping if it reads your key, has a tunnel mode, shows a log you can read and still receives updates. This part gives no speed numbers.
What to check before you commit

Open an IP page after waking the laptop, because some clients need a nudge to reconnect. If the machine belongs to an employer, ask whether installing a network client is allowed at all.
